Ok, are we getting carried away with the DIY yet???
The holidays are one of my favorite times to DIY. They make great gifts, my house smells amazing, my kids want to get involved, and I cherish the time together and memories made.
This DIY is sooooo simple. It’s satisfying to make something with your own two hands and this one comes together so quickly.
Customize it by experimenting with different essential oil combinations and different jars, tins, or containers.
Ingredients and supplies needed:
Soy Wax flakes
Candle wicks
Rosemary essential oil (or oil of choice)
Orange essential oil
2 4-ounce glass jars or tins
Orange + Rosemary Soy Candle
Ingredients
- 2 Cups soy flakes
- 2 candle wicks
- 2 4- ounce jars
- 25 drops orange essential oil
- 25 drops rosemary essential oil
Instructions
-
In a double boiler (or a bowl on top of a pot of water) bring water to a boil.
-
Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer.
-
Add the soy wax flakes and stir until fully melted.
-
Remove the melted wax from the heat and add essential oils if using, and stir.
-
While the wax is melting, adhere the candle wicks to your jar. Use glue, super glue, or a bit of wax to secure the wick.
-
Pour the melted wax into your containers.
-
Hold the wick straight up with a clothespin or a chopstick or pencil.
-
Let the wax set overnight and trim wicks to 1 inch.
That’s it!
Alternatively, you can make the candles in a slow cooker. This eliminates the spoon and bowl with dried wax on them mess.
Instead of using a double boiler, get out your crock pot.
Get out your candle containers and fill them with soy wax flakes.
Put the Crock Pot on high and put as many jars as you can fit on the bottom, not touching. Add boiling water into your Crock Pot until it is about halfway up your jars.
Leave them in the Crock Pot on high for about 40 minutes, covered. The wax should be melting and should allow you room to add more wax to the jars.
Put the cover back on and let them cook for up to another hour or however long it takes for all the wax to melt.
Remove the jars from the Crock Pot and let them rest for several minutes. If you want to add essential oils, do that now and stir them in.
Put the wicks in the jars and hold them up with clothespins, pencils, or whatever you have!
Leave the candles until they are solid and trim wick to 1 inch. Wrap them in some cute fabric, add a label, and you have some gifts ready to go!
